DES MOINES — History came to life when Iowans came to compete in the Heritage Exhibits contest. Items were judged prior to the start of the 2022 Iowa State Fair

Limited to genuine artifacts that are at least 50 years old, entries in the Heritage Exhibits division are evaluated on their authenticity and condition.

The historical exhibits included animal equipment, china, clear glass, colored or opaque glass, dry goods, furnishings, jewelry, large items collections, metals, paper, pottery, primitives, small item collections, small glass item collections, special and toys.

Rollin Thunder Ranch, of Oskaloosa, won the following awards: Animal Related, Bridle Rosettes, second place; Animal Related, Sleigh Bells, third place; Animal Related, Hunting or Fishing, first place; Animal Related, Worthy Item Not Listed, third place; Animal Related, Sweepstakes, first place; Dry Goods, Ladys Dress, third place; Metals, Other Materials - Advertising Tin, first place; Metals, Other Materials, Advertising Sign, first place; Paper, Worthy Item Not Listed, first place; Primitives, Stoneware - Blue & White, third place; Small Glass Item Collections, Paperweights, first place; Small Item Collections, Vehicle Hood Ornaments, first place; Special, Iowa State Fair Souvenir, third place; Toys, Cast Iron Toy, first place; Toys, Teddy Bear, first place; and Toys, Cast Iron Bank, first place.

Alex Harter, of Pella, won the following awards: Furnishings, Lamp - Kerosene, first place; Paper, Book - Childrens, second place; Pottery, Van Briggle or Hull, third place; Small Item Collections, Advertising Tins, first place; Special, Dolls - Bisque or China, first place; and Toys, Wind-up Tin Toy, third place.

Rylee Wilz, of Eddyville, received third place for Ladys Bracelet or Brooch - Costume category for Jewelry.
