Try one of these fan favorite cast iron dessert recipes in this Lodge Cast iron skillet ($19.90) from Amazon
Lodge is the go-to brand for affordable cast-iron skillets, and they just gave home cooks and bakers a massive dose of inspiration with their latest Facebook post.
The company’s skillets retail for a super-affordable price point from sites like Amazon; in fact, right now you can get the 10.25-inch skillet for just $19.90 instead of $29.85. If that size isn’t quite to your liking, you can get them in diameters from 3.5 inches up to 15 inches. They come pre-seasoned so you don’t have to go that extra mile (and sometimes with cast iron it truly is a mile) if you don’t want to — although of course most cooking sites will encourage you to do it anyway, we don’t judge here.
Cast iron is great because you can take it from stovetop to oven without problems, and the seasoning that gets built in as you use it helps add extra flavor to food — plus you get a beautiful crispy crust on some truly delicious dishes.
Speaking of dishes, the company just asked fans for some of their favorite recipes they cook in their Lodge skillets, and the masses came back with some excellent ideas. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite picks below — so get reading, shop for your ingredients here, and then get baking.
Facebook user Rich Bails submitted a picture of his Hummingbird Cake, a creation born of this circa-1978 recipe from Southern Living that he created in three vintage Lodge camp ovens — a testament to how long the cookware can last. The key ingredients? Crushed pineapple in its own juices, vegetable oil, and pecans — the recipe notes that you shouldn’t skimp on toasting them either. 365 by Whole Foods Market, Pineapple Crushed, 20 Ounce, $2.49

I used to live in St. Louis, where the dessert du jour was forever and always gooey butter cake — and if you want a chocolatey twist on the end product (who doesn’t?), Cindi Horton Staffeldt shared the recipe she uses in her skillet. It comes from Willowbird Baking blog, and it looks pretty darn good for springtime and summer celebrations.

Cobblers of any sort are a favorite recipe to make in a cast-iron skillet, whether you’re going for blueberry, strawberry cream cheese, or classic peach. Since we’re heading into the latter time of year when it comes to seasonal produce, we’ll opt for peach, much like Facebook users James F Metz. We’ll suggest the recipe, written down by Erika Council in honor of her family’s Juneteenth celebrations, from Lodge’s own website — all you have to do is get baking.
